How to Get Yourself Out Of Debt

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Get yourself out of debt, you really can do it! Like so many other people our debt was in control of our lives.  We were using the next paycheck to pay our current bills. How I managed it for so long is beyond me.  Three years ago we started the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace program, I am not a spokesperson for his company, it's simply the program we chose to use and we are so grateful we did. I used the audio CD and listened to it over and over again. We followed the program pretty closely but I … [Read more...]

Gluten Free Pasta Comparison

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Gluten free (wheat) foods are making their way onto the shelves faster than ever before but are they any good? Some actually are. I read an article about gluten's effect on auto immune disorders and since I have psoriasis I decided to do a 2 week experiment and cut gluten out of my diet. I saw a difference within days. At the end of the 2 weeks I was completely cleared up without using any medication. I also noticed that my joints didn't hurt anymore nor did I feel 'puffy' all … [Read more...]

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Standing rib roast (aka prime rib) is an easy and low maintenance recipe. Being that this is my favorite recipe and it's on sale this week I'll be making this recipe for Christmas.  If you don't like mushrooms just omit them, the roast will still be delicious. If you cannot find dehydrated mushrooms you can make them yourself but plan ahead. Simply slice or dice mushrooms as thin as you can and dehydrate in a dehydrator or in your oven.  I then grind into tiny pieces/powder. Serves 6 Standing … [Read more...]

Hydroponic gardening at home is really taking off around the country but if you aren't looking for it chances are you don't know it's out there. Not only are there several methods available, there is a system that will meet anyone's needs. One day we saw a show about Disney's garden towers that really got our attention so we did some research and a couple of weeks later we … [Read more...]

Then I'm a couponer, it's on sale and I have a coupon for it!  Look out stores, here I come!  That used to be me. When I first started couponing, I mean seriously couponing, I chased every deal in town . It was not uncommon to spend 8 hours stopping at 6 drug stores and 3 grocery stores in a single day to get the best deals of the week. Somes days went nice and smooth and some days were one road block after another. Then the coupon craze really hit and things changed pretty … [Read more...]

Organize Your Weekly Menu

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Cooking saves so much money whether it's for one or a large family and if you're organized you can make some healthy delicious dishes in very little time. I usually cook twice a week and that's enough to get us through the week. Exceptions for me would be meals containing fresh seafood if the seasonal sales are good enough to purchase it. Before I had a good stockpile and a full freezer I would scan the sales ad's and plan my meals accordingly. This will save you money … [Read more...]

How To Preserve Fresh Basil

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

This year I tried hydroponic gardening. I had a little success and a little learning failure. Hydroponic gardening turned out to be a better option for us than traditional gardening. see full article here. My basil went crazy so I experimented with different ways to preserve it because I just couldn't cook with it fast enough. I discovered basil freezes pretty well. I have two plants, I froze one plant for later recipes while still enjoying fresh basil now. If you want to … [Read more...]

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

I normally don't share personal details unless you are an intimate friend.  I'm sharing with you because you can do this. I know you can because we are!  Month after month I had to use the next paycheck to pay for the current bills. We lived like so many others do. We see it, we want it, we charge it. Sound familiar? January 2011 We were $90,000 in debt with credit cards and loans. As of February 2012 (13 months) we should have a remaining balance of $59,144 in debt meaning we will have paid … [Read more...]

Beef and Chicken Leftover Enchilada Pie

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Beef and Chicken Enchilada Pie is the perfect leftover makeover recipe. This recipe is really more to show you that you can make something great by thinking outside the box. I had a little pot roast,  a little rotisserie chicken, a few corn tortillas, a couple TBSP of lite garlic and herb Allouette cheese and a handful of swiss chard. How did I ever come up with enchiladas out of that? Finely chopped greens like swiss chard and kale look like parsley so you can add more nutrition to your … [Read more...]

Starbucks Lemon Loaf Cake Recipe Organic Version

Starbucks lemon loaf cake is one of my favorite treats so I was excited to come across this copycat recipe. It's  simple, basic and flavorful and I easily converted to an organic and GMO free recipe. As you'll notice it's not the really bright yellow color as the coffee shop cake because there is no food coloring added. All ingredients should be room temperature. Taste batter before baking, you can add more lemon extract or zest if you want.  I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we … [Read more...]

Buying Quality Saves You Money

You need or want something. Do you  go out and buy it without much thought, do you buy a less expensive option hoping it will hold up or do you plan for your purchase so you can get what you really want? I've done all 3 and still do depending on the situation. Even when I plan for a purchase I'm frugal. I wait for a good sale when I can, spending alot of money and buying quality aren't the same thing. The Problems 5 years ago I bought a 4 qt Calphalon sauce pan. The coating had started to … [Read more...]
