Wall Art Using Dollar Store Finds-DIY On A Dime

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Wall art is not cheap by any means. I had my eye on a beautiful "Live, Laugh, Love" piece but didn't want to spend a ton of money on one. So I decided to take matters into my own hands. I found a place mat at the dollar store that had the saying I wanted and as luck would have it, it was in the colors I wanted as well! I picked up 2 and held on to them until inspiration struck. Luck was on my side once again when I went to the thrift store. I found a frame that would work perfectly with my … [Read more...]

A pencil holder is a must have for any desk or work space. Why spend an obscene amount of money when you can make one for a BUCK? Using what most would consider trash and a roll of contact paper from the dollar store, I was able to make an organizer large enough to hold not only my pens and pencils, but my paint brushes, fabric markers, and cutters! I love having pretty garden statues and the cute little garden gnomes in my yard, but with the hot Louisiana sun we have, it really takes a toll on the paint and appearance of them. I hate to get rid of them and buy new ones, so I decided to take it upon myself to make them look brand new again! Spring time is here! All the trees and flowers are starting to bloom. Grab those faded and dirty yard ornaments and make them new again! You can also see a couple of decorative rock figurines I am … [Read more...]

Shaving Cream Easter Eggs     Shaving cream Easter eggs is as simple as it gets. I've tried many different ways to dye Easter eggs through the years and this is the best I've found yet. I didn't have neon food color and they still came out great. Easy to make, easy clean up and very fast!  I covered my pan with plastic wrap for easy clean up and I processed each egg twice for a richer color. If you also want more color, wipe the egg off, do not rinse, then roll in shaving cream again … [Read more...]

Wreaths are a cute way to decorate for the holidays and they are super simple to make! I made this Easter wreath in about 20 minutes! I used a wreath form, some plastic eggs, ribbon, tulle, and a glue gun. Cut (12) 6 inch pieces of tulle and tied them at their center on the form. The push the knots as close together as possible. Pull the ends of the ends of the  tulle forward to create a full bow. Tulle is very easy to fluff and the ends can be trimmed if needed. Using the glue gun, attach … [Read more...]

My daughter loves to craft with me. Hand her some glue, glitter, paper, and scissors and she is in her glory! We were trying to come up with a cute Valentines craft that she could make for her teacher with little to no help. After looking through my craft supplies, I came up with some toilet paper rolls, an old dollar store frame that had the glass broken out of it, paint, a glue gun, and glitter. Now for the fun! I cut the tp rolls open length wise and then cut it on the shorter side into 1/4 … [Read more...]

There are some things though, that I enjoy doing on my own. One of those is making bows, big, beautiful, fluffy bows. Like the kind you see on … [Read more...]

Holiday Acorn Ball

During the past two months my beloved oak tree has provided a bountiful supply of acorns and although I have given so many away to family, friends and neighbors I’m still listening to them bounce from the trees.  Every other day I have to rake or sweep these acorns up so they don’t sprout little trees. Living in a moderate climate zone makes it nice to have our neighborhood feast outdoors.  For Thanksgiving I decided to make use of these acorns to decorate my outdoor table where we will … [Read more...]

Aunt Angie’s Hotel Getaway

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

A few years ago when my son was eight years old, we were discussing if we were going to do a weekend getaway like an amusement park or maybe the Zoo in Chicago?  My son said, “I don’t care where we go, I just want to go and stay at a hotel, we don’t have to drive far!” I thought why would I spend money on a destination if he just wants the hotel part. When I asked my son what he liked so much about a hotel he responded that he wouldn't have to do chores while we were there.  He liked being … [Read more...]
