Java Warning

When someone says Install Java what do you think of? As a couponer we all have a love/hate relationship with Java. I know once I see the SmartSource logo I expect to not get all my prints. Recently, Java has come under heavy scrutiny. Read my article ‘Java Security Flaw Repaired‘ for more insight. Now that the flaw is repaired it is now time to do our civic duty and clean our computers of old Java files.

1. First open your ‘Control Panel’ and click ‘Add/Remove Programs’ or ‘Programs’ depending on your OS.

2. Now we want to go through the process of ‘Uninstalling’ everything you have Java related. When you start uninstalling you will have to close your browser so either Bookmark Us, print this page using the button above, or know how to get back to us to complete the process. Java recommends uninstalling anything that appears as: J2SE, Java 2, Java SE or Java Runtime Environment. (*Note: Some business systems require certain versions of Java be install. If this is your work computer proceed with caution.)

TIP: You may also need to DELETE your Java folder in program files.
32bit (C:\Program Files\Java) and 64bit (C:\Program Files (x86)\Java)

3. Now that you have uninstalled Java, lets get the latest version downloaded and installed. To Install Java you need to go to Java.com and click the ‘Free Java Download’ button. Next, click the ‘Agree and Start Free Download’ button. ‘Save’ or ‘Run’ the downloaded file to start the install process.

4. Once the installer opens and starts running the install process is very straight forward. Just ‘Next’ through everything unless you do not want the ‘Free Program’ Java tries to install. In this case it is the ‘ASK Toolbar’, it is your decision if you like to install these sort of things, but I highly discourage it because it will slow down your web browsing experience. You may be asked to close your web browser again, so you’ll need to be able to get back to us again. Bookmark Us

5. After this point you should be good to go. Navigate out to SmartSource and give your printing a trial run. If you are still having issues Java does provide and extensive Java Help Center and SmartSource also provides its own Help Section.
