Homemade Potatoes Au Gratin is very to make. Cheese is a staple in my kitchen because it freezes so well and it makes many foods even more delicious. (Shred cheese before freezing). I like to mix different cheeses together such as gouda, goat cheese, fontina, cheddar etc in many dishes from sandwiches to pasta. Tonight I used 1/4 c each parmesan and crumbled goat cheese, 1/2 cup each cheddar, fontina and gruyere. Next time it may be a different combination. Use your favorites and you wont … [Read more...]

Homemade Smoothies

Dark green leafy vegetables are probably the most concentrated source of nutrition of any food.  I can't always eat what I need each day, so I drink them instead.  Nothing beats the nutritional value of making your own smoothies from fresh fruits and vegetables without all the added sugars and additives. Some people prefer juicing, I personally prefer using food in it's whole form so I don't lose any nutrients or the necessary fiber our bodies need. 22 oz of raw greens yields about 8 cups … [Read more...]

Just in time for Halloween, you can save money and make a cute tutu for your little princess. I can't believe how easy it was to make! My daughter has almost every Disney Princess costume available, recently her Ariel one finally became shreds after so many washes. I decided to try to make her a skirt instead of spending another $45 on a costume. This was made for my almost 5 year old, so the amount of tulle needed will vary by child. Supplies Needed to Make Tutu: 1 package of 1" … [Read more...]

Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

Homemade seasonings are  easy to make and so much healthier for you. While store bought pre-made seasonings are convenient and inexpensive they are loaded with salt, sugar and other ingredients we don't need. So much so that at times the salt is overpowering and can easily ruin your recipe. I began making my own seasoning mixes for this very reason. When using homemade blends add 1 TBSP per pound of meat and taste, add a little more at a time if needed to suit your taste. Homemade … [Read more...]
