Save Money with a Primal Cut

primal cut

Primal cut meat is something we have all heard David talk about. Today I put his advice to use and saved over $100 on meat! Yup, you read that right, $100! A local Spartan store where I live, Heartland Marketplace, has whole loin New York Strip on sale this week for $2.99/lb. To sweeten they deal, they dropped the price to $2.49/lb for a weekend sale!

In my area, the whole loin runs right around $5.99/lb and single steaks $9.89/lb! The loin I picked up weighted 14.32 pounds. Let’s do some math. If you were to buy the steaks individually, it would work out to be $142.91 (@$9.98/lb).
Buying the whole loin not on sale would work out to $85.78 (@$5.99/lb).
By watching the ads, I was able to score over 14 pounds of New York Strip steak for only $35.67 (@$2.99/lb).

Many stores will slice the primal cuts free of charge to whatever thickness you prefer. I had ours cut into just over 1 inch steaks, giving us 18 steaks!

  1. $2 per steak is sooooo much cheaper than eating at Outback 🙂

  2. Awesome deal Shanna!

  3. Eating at home is always cheaper then eating out. I don’t know how people can afford to eat out everyday, especially if they have a family.
