Have an Adult Beverage

Adult Beverage - Raspberry Margarita

If you entertain on a regular basis then you know how fast the beverages can add up. I used to keep a very well stocked bar meaning 12-15 + bottles of anything you can think of, but I’ve learned through the years that all I really need is four alcohols, 2 wines and a few basic mixers. You can now cover just about any adult beverage that your guests request.

The following is a list of what I now keep on hand for ‘everyday entertaining.’ Except for the whiskey, I choose white alcohols because they blend better with most mixers. I keep only top shelf on hand. It pays in the long run to pay a little extra cash on quality. If I am hosting a big bash I do ask friends to BYOB because my budget will only stretch so far.

Adult Beverage Mixers to Keep On Hand
  • Rum ~ Bacardi Silver or Castillo White, both Jamaican
  • Tequila ~ Cabo Wabo Silver, Sammy Hagar’s brand
  • Vodka ~ Grey Goose
  • Whiskey ~ Jack Daniels, Gentleman Jack
  • White – Pinot Noir, A soft and fruity wine, serve chilled
  • Red – Dornfelder, lightly sweet, fruity wine, serve chilled

As I said above, this is my basic list. There are always exceptions like chocolate martini night with the girls or a special guest that prefers a particular beverage.  As far as beer is concerned, that’s also BYOB. Every friend we have that drinks beer, drinks a different brand than the other one. Mixers include soft drinks I usually have on hand anyway, frozen juices because they take up less storage room and club soda. You can make so many drinks with these basic mixers. Below is an adult beverage or two (or three or four)  to try at your next shindig.

Smith and Wesson
1 oz vodka
1oz coffee liqueur
2 oz half and half
club soda
Pour the first three ingredients in a glass with ice. Add club soda to fill

The Midnight Martini
3 1/2 oz vodka or coffee flavored vodka
1/4 of coffee liqueur
Lemon twist for garnish
Pour ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, stir, strain into a martini glass and garnish with lemon twist

Classic Chocolate Martini
1 oz vodka
1 oz chocolate liqueur, like Godiva
1/2 oz coffee liqueur
1/2 oz Irish cream, like Baileys
Pour all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a martini glass. You can lightly swirl chocolate sauce inside the glass.

Raspberry Margarita ~ Party recipe
9 oz silver tequila
3 oz Dekuyper Razzmatazz liqueur
24 oz margarita mix
Mix all ingredients together, serve over ice.
