Basic Crock Pot Bread

I think the cold weather signals crock pot time to me. For some reason I use my crock pot more in the winter because it is easy to just throw a meal in there and let the crock pot do the cooking. Besides cooking chili, beans, soups, and other traditional crock pot foods try your hand at baking some fresh bread with your crock pot with this basic Crock Pot Bread recipe!

Basic Crock Pot Bread Ingredients:
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp or 1 packet Yeast
  • 2 tbsp Sugar or Honey
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 cup warm (not hot!) Water

Basic Crock Pot Bread Directions:
  1. Measure flour into large bowl.
  2. Add salt, sugar and yeast and mix together well.
  3. Add Oil and water.
  4. Stir with a spoon until it gets stiff and sticky.
  5. Work the dough with your hands (occasionally scraping dough off your fingers) until it forms a nice ball.
  6. If it stays too sticky add a bit more flour (1/4 cup at a time). If it gets too dry add a bit more water (teaspoon at a time).
  7. When it get a good ball, scatter flour on you work surface and turn out ball on to surface..
  8. Knead dough for 5-6 minutes.
  9. Line slow cooker with parchment paper.
  10. Place dough in slow cooker and cook on high for 1 – 1 1/2 hours. You will need to lift bread out with the parchment paper to see if the bottom is browning.
  11. When bottom is browning, place loaf under broiler for a couple of minutes to brown the top.
