Big Y = Big Savings

Big YOur local Big Y (local chain here in CT) was running a sale this past week on Sweet Baby Ray’s. I’ve been waiting for those coupons all year. Well, their sale weeks run Thursday to Wednesday and my inserts come Wednesdays, whenever my mailman feels like showing up (usually 4-5pm). So I took the one coupon I got from the paper and headed over anyway, figuring I could get a rain check and go back next week for more. I grabbed some coupons I always use there just in case the items were on sale. It was a quick trip – we are having a BBQ Saturday so I wanted to start getting some stuff so my haul Friday isn’t as painful. Here’s what I did:

My Big Y Trip

(10) Tabasco Sauce – Buy 1 @ $2.15, get 1 free.
used (10) $0.60/1 any Tabasco (RP 04.29) – coupons double to the price of the item
Final price: FREE
(5) Frank’s Red Hot $1.25 each
used (5) $0.75/1 any Frank’s Red Hot (SS 05/13) – coupons double to the price of the item
Final price: FREE
(10) Good N Natural bars $1 each
used (10) FREE Good N Natural bar coupons (RP 05/06)
Final price: FREE
(2) Vlasic Pickles Buy 1 @ $3.99, get 1 free
used (2) $0.55/1 vlasic pickles (SS 04/01) that doubled.
Final price: $0.90 each, $1.80 for 2 jars
(1) Similac Advance Concentrated Formula – Reg $10.99, on clearance for $5.34
used $5 Similac check
Final price: $0.34

I got my rain check for the Sweet Baby Ray’s (they were out) and also a rain check for the pickles as well. I’d planned on buying 10 jars and they only had 2 left.

Total before sales & coupons at Big Y: 56.72
Total OOP: $2.14

New to the Coupon-Wizards?

Are you new to The Coupon Wizards? I’m a one woman blog, but I work tirelessly, day in and day out, to find you the best deals. Both couponing deals and online bargains! This isn’t Extreme Couponing, it’s Effective Couponing! There is a method to my madness as well. Not only do I find sales & deals for you, but in doing so, I find sales & deals for me too. It’s a win win 😉 Plus I’m able to teach others to do this at the same time, which I love!

I started following The Coupon Wizards after doing some research on the subject, with a little prodding from a friend, and coming across them on Facebook. I was hooked immediately & started to learn quickly. Mostly out of necessity, but also because I loved everything about it. The organization, the researching, the putting together of deals, but most of all, the savings! I was saving my family money to pay those bills & be able to eat all at the same time. This blog was a life saver; literally! In no time at all, I was a blogger myself on the site. My husband has since found a job, but this is now mine and I love, love, love it and hope you will to. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Until next time, shop happy 😊

  1. Wondering which Big Y they use. I would love to know since the 4 that are next to me only allow 5 of the same coupons…

    • Jason, I am aware of the 5 coupon limit. When I have multiple transactions such as this one, I go to the service desk because I don’t like to hold up the lines at the registers. I had my tabasco split into 3 trans 4-4-2 and the bars split into 5-5. I divided them up and split the coupons accordingly. The supervisor who rang me out there opted to ring them all together since I was the only one there. It is not the only store I shop at, but I am a regular customer there and I find that the supervisors can be very pleasant when approached positively 🙂
