Getting Business Ready for the New Year This time a year is my favorite of them all, but probably not for the reasons you would think. As a small business owner, I enjoy the end of the year because it's a slow time for me in my line of work and leaves me plenty of time to get my business ready for the new year. My clients are all out doing their holiday thing while I'm here at home doing mine; my year-end-wrap-up and working for David at The Coupon Wizards! As I was organizing my files and … [Read more...]

Military Christmas For the second year in a row, our family is apart during the holidays while my husband is deployed in the military.  In our household, and many others, this is the most coveted holiday of them all. It is a time of year where we can really slow down and be that Rockefeller Painting. We bake, craft and shop together. We play games and snuggle up on the couch for movies, attend holiday parties, and host them as well. I love this time of year for all of those reasons and … [Read more...]

It's always a good idea to have easy and fast recipes on hand for a party, whether it's your party or you have been invited to one. Have an Adult Beverage If you entertain on a regular basis then you know how fast the beverages can add up. You can now cover just about any adult beverage that your guests request. The following is a list of what I now keep on hand for 'everyday entertaining.' Except for the whiskey, I … [Read more...]

Mexican Hot Chocolate               Not only is this Mexican hot chocolate one of those warm you the bones feel good comfort food recipes, it's also the one thing my husband asks for when he is sick. Tomato Soup and Beef Vegetable Soup

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Rosemary infused tomato soup: I made this soup by using the leftover tomato juice from the canned tomatoes I use when making my homemade spaghetti sauce. Traditionally, tomato soup is made from 1 can of tomatoes pureed and 3 cups of broth, give or take. When I make my sauce I usually have about 5-6 cups of juice left over so I turn it into soup.  The photo above also shows homemade beef vegetable soup  and pot pie, (recipe below) made from the stew meat used to flavor and thicken the … [Read more...]

Stupid Tax Refunds Yeah, that's right, I said it. Tax refunds are STUPID! It is amazing how many people I talk with that "can't wait to get my tax check." Highly educated people that are both friends and family. Why? Why are they so excited? Why are they enamored with the fact that they just gave the Federal Government an interest free loan for the last 12 months? If you get a tax refund (with the exception of EIC, and some special circumstances) STOP! If anyone needs an interest free … [Read more...]

Hosting Frugal Birthday Parties I am not a fan of having birthday parties at home, since I end up having to clean before and after the party. Plus, the cost of food, drinks, goody bags & entertainment can be expensive. Last year we decided to try McDonalds and it was such a hit, we had the triplets party there again this year. Best part, no cleanup! This is what we got for $75.00: 2 1/2 Hours in the Play Area 10 - Happy Meals (everyone got their choice of entrees and … [Read more...]

Craigslist Craigslist is a network of websites (separate ones for each city or general area of the country) that feature online advertisements. Sellers can list on the site for free and buyers can browse for free. This week I went through my daughter's room and pulled out a train table and an art easel that she was no longer using. I was able to sell the train table for $45 and the art easel for $30! Then I found a man's valet stand that wasn't being used anymore and sold that for $30! So … [Read more...]

Talking Nerdy- Paper vs E-Books

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Talking Nerdy - Paper vs eBooks I love my gadgets but when it came to books I used to be die hard paper. Not to long ago I swore I would never have an e-book reader. I loved the feel and smell of a new paper book. The downside to the paper books was that we have no bookstore in our town so buying them involved a 30 minute trip to the next town and they were taking over the house. After much debate with hubby he got me an iPad. While I loved it for its many uses I was still reluctant to use … [Read more...]
