This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

It's hard to believe it has already been a month since my last installment of What to Expect from Couponing, but here we are a month older and hopefully a month wiser!  May is a great month for couponers.  Although a bit premature in some parts of the country this year, it's the unofficial launch of the summer shopping season.  The summer shopping season is definitely polar for couponers.  By the time July rolls around, we will hear the beginning of the grumblings about "no food coupons in the … [Read more...]

What can you expect from couponing in February?  Lots of change!  This first weekend of February is now home to the Superbowl.  In the grocery industry, it is basically treated just like a national holiday.  In all seriousness, it's one of the top five grocery weekends of the year!  If you are the brand manager for certain categories, you can make or break your budget for the entire year in this one weekend.  This is your time to capitalize on hot sales for snacks and appetizers.  Salty snacks … [Read more...]

Putting Together a Coupon Trip

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

How I Put Together a Coupon Trip Lots of people say “teach me how to coupon” or “I don’t know where I begin.” I thought it might be helpful to run you through how I put a coupon trip together each and every week. I’ll tell you right from the start that I’m a spreadsheet person. I’m not going to get into all the nitty gritty on inputting my trips on spreadsheets. That would be for another post, but whether you type your lists or hand-write them, the steps I take would be pretty much the same. So … [Read more...]

January is a time of new beginnings.  Many of us come up with resolutions that we have no intention of keeping.  Others will turn over a new leaf that will change the way they live for the rest of their life.  Regardless of where you fit on the spectrum, there is one thing for certain: couponing is still hot! In 2011 we saw a huge spike in the number of people that started couponing. It lasted into February of 2012 and then started to decline. We had a new generation of "born again … [Read more...]

Do You Have a Store Plan? Do you have a favorite store you like to coupon at? If so, do you have a store plan for that store? If you’re not sure what I mean by that, I’ll explain. My store plan has helped me immensely in the planning stages of my shopping trips and hopefully once you see what I mean, it will help you too. Living in the Southeast, my favorite store to coupon at is Publix. When I first moved down here, one of the first things I did was head to my closest Publix to check it … [Read more...]

Price Book & How to Keep One

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

How to Keep a Price Book A Price book is a way of tracking the prices of items you have purchased. This is a great way to see what your buy or stockpile price may be for a particular item. Not only do I track the prices of sales items I buy, but I also track them for non-sales and non-couponing items too. This allows me to plan my regular weekly shopping trip and know approximately what my cost will be before going to the store. There are a few ways you can do one. You can utilize an app … [Read more...]

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Busted Shopping Trip You plan your shopping trip, look at the match up and the sales ad, you make your list, clip your coupons and off you go only to discover your plan won't work. Maybe the store is out of stock, you forgot some coupons or they expired and you didn't notice or what you thought was on sale really isn't. There are a number of things that can go wrong. We have all been there on more than one occasion. This happened to me at Publix very recently. I saw an item on sale in a … [Read more...]

Shopping Plans, the Best Laid Ones Have Kinks

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Shopping Plans with Issues I'm a planner. All my shopping plans are laid out by transactions on a spreadsheet. My coupons are sorted and paper clipped by transaction. I have notes on which UP's/ECB's/RR's I need to roll into a subsequent transaction. However, despite all your planning, the unknown will eventually step in and throw a kink in your plan. Today is a perfect example. I had 2 transactions mapped out for Rite Aid. This would have broken down to being OOP $1.84 before taxes. Great … [Read more...]

Total Higher Than Expected? Here are Some Possible Reasons

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

You plan your trip, you use the match ups and you have the coupons you need but a total higher than you figured was NOT expected. There are a few things that can cause this. If this happens to you consider making smaller trips, they are much easier to control. I added some suggestions for this below. Total Higher? What to Look For Did you consider tax on your total? Look at your receipt, some products that we consider food is actually taxable. Did you add something to your cart … [Read more...]

Coupon Shopping Plan, What to Do When Yours Is a Bust

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

When was the last time your coupon shopping plan was a bust? What do you do when you get to the store and what you were going after isn’t there? Do what I do? Grab a flyer and scan for your life? This week has been a bad week for me. I never did make it to Walgreens earlier in the week as planned and because of that, I ended up with $25 in Register Rewards (RRs) that were going to expire yesterday if I didn’t use them. I grabbed my Shopping Spreadsheet with my Walgreens shopping plan on it and … [Read more...]

Shopping Trip – Getting Ready for One

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Getting Ready for a Shopping Trip How I prepare for a shopping trip is probably very different from most. I am a paper and pencil kind of girl. Computer spreadsheets are great for some, confusing to me. This is how I get ready for my shopping trips. I first sit down and scroll through the store matchups and see if any of the Best of the Best are things that we need. After writing the deal down and where to find the coupon, I then go through the ad to see if any items that we need are on … [Read more...]

How To Read a Store Matchup

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Reading a Store Matchup A Store Matchup is a very important part of couponing. The nice thing about sites putting out matchups is that they are doing the work for you. I know in the beginning they were a little confusing to me so we will try to help you navigate them. Most sites are different depending on whether they use a plug in or just type the matchups manually.  However, the basic parts of a matchup will be the same. It will usually tell you the item on sale, sales price, what … [Read more...]

Tere’s Shopping Plan for Week of 1/29

Tere's Shopping Plan It's the weekend, so that means a few things for me: 1. The weekend is finally here! 2. I can sleep in late instead of worrying about my alarm buzzing early to get up for work. 3. I'm more inclined to eat junk food instead of sticking to my new "healthy way of life" plan. 4. It's time to plan my shopping trip for the new Sunday ad cycles! I search the weekly ads for items that I know my family can use and that I can get at stock-up prices. I try not to … [Read more...]

Walgreens – My Plan to Save 96%

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Last week I showed you one of my Walgreens trips and how I use my Shopping Spreadsheet in conjunction with it. I mentioned to you that I prefer to roll my Register Rewards (RRs) each time I go in rather than using those on purchases I don’t have coupons for or expensive items. This week I’m going to show you what I mean. The last week, after my 4 transactions during that week, I ended up with $59 in RRs. This week I’ve created my transactions to do in order to roll those RRs into new RRs. … [Read more...]

Couponing Could Face its Toughest Year in 2012

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Couponing Having It's Toughest Year? Will couponing as we know it be changing? You know that I love to talk about the deal that I was able to score on Vicks last year. You remember that I rolled enough Register Rewards from that deal to basically buy all of the diapers we will ever need for Ethan and about 2 years worth of Proglide Razors for me. People ask me all the time "Do you think couponing is going to change?" I usually nod (figuratively) and tell them yes. At some point, coupon values … [Read more...]

Rain Check Strategies Do you have a rain check file? Not cool. Not cool at all.  Certainly I read all the comments from frustrated Wiz Kids about the shelf clearing in their area. I agree. There is … [Read more...]

Stockpile Cereal When's the best time to stockpile cereal?  New Year's week!  With many people focusing on diets and eating healthier after they let it all hang out during the holiday season, manufacturers will be laying in wait to capitalize on the new trends in consumption.  I am not here to project how long it will last, but I can tell you that you will have a small window to stockpile cereal before the deals are over. For example, last year Special K had the "Special K Challenge."  They … [Read more...]
