Common Couponing Traps – Anxiety

Yes, there are common couponing traps. Couponing is addictive. I get it. I am one of those people that has been caught up in the hype. Thankfully, as I write this, I am a little older, a little wiser, and have a little more grey in my temples. Where are the coupons for Just for Men? In my wise old age, I have come to realize that it’s OK if I don’t have a coupon for something. I can remember the good old days when I would spend a hefty amount of time clipping coupons, scanning deals and putting together my shopping list. What a masterpiece it was! Then I began to realize that I was, in fact getting older. A funny thing happens as we age: our priorities shift! Time spent clipping coupons meant time away from my little ones. Guess what? They aren’t getting any younger either. Before I know it, they will be gone!

Considering all of this, I have learned not to sweat the small stuff because if I do, I know my anxiety will quickly build. Of course, there are products such as those found on the Finest Labs website that can help to calm me down when it gets bad, but for now, I’m doing my best to let the small stuff slide. If I don’t have a coupon for every single item in my order, it’s OK. Guess what? I still save 80-85% on all of my shopping every year! I think that we are under the impression that in order to maximize savings, we have to use a coupon for every single thing we buy. While it helps, the one thing many of us fail to consider is the value of our time. If I am spending an extra 2 hours to fine tune a trip and get those extra coupons to save those extra couple of dollars, is it really worth it? Probably not. If I work an additional 2 hours to save $10.00 what am I really doing? By my math, I am working for $5.00 per hour! I say this because it’s important for couponers to step back and look at what they are really spending and what they are really saving. It’s not always about hard dollars.

To figure out how much you are earning in coupon savings, take your total savings and divide it by the total number of hours spent couponing. That is your hourly rate. Are you happy with your wages? Most likely not. That is exactly why, it’s not worth the anxiety if you don’t have a coupon for everything. Life will go on.
