Button and String Journal
Interested in learning to make your own button and string journal? I am getting ready to host a large weekend crop for 15 of my favorite people and during that time away, I always plan a Scrap Pack Challenge. In years past, each person has gotten a similar bag full of scraps to create a fun tag for someone else at the crop. This year I wanted to do something different and more useful, so I am creating these Button and String Journal for each person to design with the items in the scrap pack! These frugal creations are an easy project and can be used for many things! I’ve also seen them house post cards or other mementos from a trip! I can’t wait to see what the ladies come up with for their designs! Here are the easy steps on how to make a Button and String Journal:
Scrap Pack Supplies
- 12 x12 Heavy Cover Paper (Card Stock or Craft Paper) – cut to 12 x 10.5″
- 8.5 x 11″ Inside blank or lined pages, 5 or more sheets, cut to 7 x 11″
- 12″ of baker’s twine or string
- button or stapler and staples
- Scissors or paper cutter
- Ruler
- Needle/embroidery floss
- Paper scorer
Button & String Journal Directions
- Cut the card stock for the cover to 12 x 10.5.
- After you cut the cover, score a line 1.5″ in from the right side and fold.
- Then, score a line 4.75″ in from the left side and fold.
- Center your button on the top side of the 1.5″ fold. Sew in place with embroidery floss.
- Tie bakers twine or string to button (or use the end of the twine/floss you used sew button on~ that’s what I did).
- Fold your inside pages in half and place inside at the 4.75 score, and staple at spine or sew the binding.
- Fold your book together, wrap the twine around it, and wrap the end around the button.
Your Button and String Journal is now ready to decorate with a scrap pack, or any other scrapping items you have! Be creative! Use it to record your thoughts or your journal posts!
