David Registers for the New York Marathon

New York Marathon

Well, it’s official.  I bit the bullet and decided that I was going to go ahead and train for another New York marathon. On November 4, 2012, I will be running in the 2012 ING New York Marathon. I have done this several times before, so it’s nothing new. The good part is that I am going to do a weekly training log and post it in the Man Cave. For those of you that have never run a marathon, I can assure you that it is every bit as much mental as it is physical. The first obstacle to overcome is to believe that you can do it. I promise you that if I am capable of doing it, you are too.

My First Day of Training

The good part about this training program is that I am going to take it very slow and stair step it up along the way. Even if you have been stagnate for the last couple of years, you will be able to leave the couch and keep up with me. Tomorrow morning is our first day. We will be covering a distance of 4 miles. We will jog for 1 minute and walk for 9 minutes until we have covered the entire distance. We will do this for two more days this week and then step it up to jogging for 2 minutes and walking for 8 minutes on Saturday. Our ultimate goal is to get to jogging for 9 minutes and walking for 1 minute. At my marathon pace, this will allow me to walk through all of the water stops on the race course. I will not run the entire 26.2 miles of the New York marathon. I learned the first time that I will need to conserve everywhere that I can.

Follow Me on My New York Marathon Adventure

I hope that some of you will train with me. You can follow my daily workouts on Daily Mile, but I will be posting weekly workouts along with pictures on this page. If you want a little additional motivation, take a look at my before and after pictures from the last time that  I did this. Grayson was only 3 years old at the time and the amount of time from the left to the right was only 4 months. Grayson barely had a chance to change! I have, once again, enlisted the support of my good friend and personal trainer, Rob Zulkoski from RobZ Fitness in Valrico, FL. Check out his website and his FB page and make sure you let him know that I told you to swing by. This is going to be a fun and exciting journey. I will post weekly pictures with stats for everyone to see the transformation. The pressure is on. I have an audience this time. I am excited about what this journey brings!
