DIY Wednesday – Wasted Space

wasted space

This one about wasted space will be a cliffhanger of a post, but it will be a good result, I promise! I’m sure many of you have wasted space in your home you wish you could utilize differently.  For us, one of those places was in our laundry room.  Once we put the washer and dryer in, we had a bunch of space that wasn’t really usable for anything, since the shelves above extended beyond the appliances.  We decided that a quick solution would be to remove the shelves, frame out a quick closet and rehang the shelves to utilize the most space.  Now, before you get all hot and bothered, I will tell you that by the time we are finished, this entire project will cost less than $100.  Talk about a big change for little money!wasted space

We (I use the term loosely, because I didn’t do anything. My 4 year old helped more than I did) used the two existing walls and framed out the closet from there, using less wood than we’d need if we framed out all 4. We bought 12 2x4x8’s at Lowe’s and they run between $2.50-3 apiece, depending on your store.  We definitely don’t need all 12, but there are a lot of projects around here and better safe than sorry.  We’ll need two sheets of drywall, which run around $7 a piece, and the accordion door which will run $27.

You’ll have to tack on a few bucks if you need nails/screws but all you need toolwise for this is a basic handheld power drill.  Stay tuned to see the finished product!

New to the Coupon-Wizards?

Are you new to The Coupon Wizards? I’m a one woman blog, but I work tirelessly, day in and day out, to find you the best deals. Both couponing deals and online bargains! This isn’t Extreme Couponing, it’s Effective Couponing! There is a method to my madness as well. Not only do I find sales & deals for you, but in doing so, I find sales & deals for me too. It’s a win win 😉 Plus I’m able to teach others to do this at the same time, which I love!

I started following The Coupon Wizards after doing some research on the subject, with a little prodding from a friend, and coming across them on Facebook. I was hooked immediately & started to learn quickly. Mostly out of necessity, but also because I loved everything about it. The organization, the researching, the putting together of deals, but most of all, the savings! I was saving my family money to pay those bills & be able to eat all at the same time. This blog was a life saver; literally! In no time at all, I was a blogger myself on the site. My husband has since found a job, but this is now mine and I love, love, love it and hope you will to. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Until next time, shop happy 😊
