Back in the Couponing Game

couponingWe have all had times where we have fallen off of the couponing wagon. Work gets overwhelming, home life gets hectic and something has to fall off the plate. I just went through a period like this. I had some health issues and we had some pretty serious home life things to deal with. But now it’s time to dust off the binder and get back into the swing of things.

So this week I sat at the living room table staring at the massive mess that used to be a meticulously organized couponing file box and binder. I knew that my first step was to roll up my sleeves and just dig in. So here are the steps I took to get back in the game…

  • Cleaned out the file box
  • Removed all old coupons from binder
  • Filed all insert packages
  • Assessed stockpile and identified low items; made a list
  • Looked at matchups and made a list
  • Pulled coupons for a Friday shopping trip

While this list may seem normal and insignificant, since I had not seriously couponed in months, and was just pulling a coupon here and there from the envelopes of inserts, it took a hours to complete, but I DID IT! I also have jumped back in and done my first deal. I am running dangerously low on a lot of things, but most important is laundry detergent.  So I headed to Family Dollar to get Tide Detergent.

Tide 40oz Laundry Detergent Regular $6.00 on sale $5.00
$2/1 Tide Laundry Detergent exp. 10/31/13 (P&G 9/29)
Paid $3 per bottle
50% Savings

Since this coupon has a 4 per trip/per day limit, I did 4 and will be going back today to get 4 more. Luckily I have a Family Dollar minutes away from my office and I pass another one on my way home. While this isn’t my best ever deal on laundry detergent, the thing to remember when building or rebuilding your stockpile is that ANY savings is better than NO savings!

I guess the moral to this story is that even Wizards fall off the couponing wagon. The more important thing is to remember the skills you’ve learned, dig in and get it done!!

  1. Thanks for this! I just had twins January 30th. My pregnancy was full of health issues and I had to stop couponing for a while. I just started again and reading this made me feel some better about it as I was feeling a bit discouraged. Thanks!!
