Gingerbread Playdough Recipe

I love making all sorts of crafts and activities with my kids! With Christmas decorations everywhere you turn and the smell of fresh pine in the air, what could be better than making some Gingerbread Playdough?  I have tried several different playdough recipes in the past and this is the only one that comes out perfect every single time. I like that I have most of the ingredients in my pantry and that it’s safe to eat (although not very tasty). This was so easy to make, that  I am already thinking of other Christmas scents to make next time!

Gingerbread Playdough Recipe:

  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons  Cream of Tartar
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1/2 cup Salt
  • 2 cups Hot Water
  • Food Coloring (I used 8 drops of red and 5 drops of green to make this brown)
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. Allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. Ground Ginger

Gingerbread Playdough Directions:

1. Place all dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Mix well.

2. In a separate bowl, mix 2 cups of hot water, oil and food coloring. Mix well. Slowly pour liquid mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until well mixed.

3. Once mixed well, transfer mixture to a saucepan and cook at low-med heat. Continue to stir until it resembles playdough.

4. Remove from heat. Knead with spatulas until it’s cool enough to touch, then finish kneading with hands. Store in a plastic Ziploc bag or airtight container.
