Headlight Restoration Trick

David recently posted an article on how to restore your headlights. While he overpaid for his headlight restoration kit (his words, not mine), spent a half hour on his project, and even had to use a Dewalt cordless drill, I’m going to show you a super cheap and fast way to get a temporary fix for the same problem. Perhaps if I had posted this first, David could have held off on that impulse buy and used this to get by until he got a delivery from Amazon!

You only need a few common household items to make this work:  non-gel toothpaste, a mild scrub sponge or 3M scouring pad, glass cleaner, and some paper towels.

Clean your headlight with glass cleaner and paper towel, removing any grime. Put a quarter size amount of toothpaste on the scrubbing sponge and rub it all over the headlight. Work in circular motions to cover the entire area. Once the toothpaste starts to dry and get tacky, lightly spray it with glass cleaner and wipe clean with paper towel.

Depending on how bad your headlights are, you may want to repeat the process.

before and after

This will fade away after it rains, so it definitely is not a permanent fix.  However, it will clear up your headlights enough to see an improvement. Just repeat the process as needed to keep your headlights shining bright. Voila! Headlight restoration complete.
