This homemade chili low fat recipe is great year round. It’s healthy, you can customize it to fit your own taste and it freezes well. I got this recipe from a personal trainer a few years back and he called it Fat Burning 5 Alarm Chili but it’s not spicy so I changed the name. The spices in this chili are known to kick your metabolism up so the more you consume of these spices the better it is for you.

Homemade Chili Low Fat Seasoning

  • 1/2 tsp Cumin
  • 1/2 tsp Cayenne chili pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Chipolte chili pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Coriander
  • 1 tsp Cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 Tbs Parsley
  • 2 Tbs Smoked Paprika
  • 2 Tbs Chili powder

Homemade Chili Low Fat

  • 1 1/2 Lbs 93% lean ground turkey
  • 1 Large onion, chopped
  • 2 Colored bell peppers, red, orange, yellow
  • 3 Cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1-2 Zucchini, cut lengthwise then cut in 1/2″ slices
  • 1-2 Yellow squash, cut lengthwise then cut in 1/2″ slices
  • 1 8oz package sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cans Chicken broth or 4 cups homemade
  • 1 can Red chili beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can Diced tomatoes, I use Hunts Zesty Chili
  • 2 Tbs Lime Juice
  • 1 Tbs Corn starch if needed to thicken

Begin to brown and crumble ground turkey in a 16″ electric skillet,  keep it covered to reserve the liquid in the meat. In the meantime cut the veggies and add them all to the pan once the turkey has a nice crumble along with the seasoning mix, stir well. Add the beans, tomatoes and 3 1/2 cups of broth, cook about 20 min or until the zucchini starts to soften, stirring occasionally. Dissolve corn starch in remaining 1/2 cup chicken broth if desired, add to chili stirring to blend. Once thickened, turn off heat.
