As most of you know I do have an iPad, but we have been looking at the Kindle for hubby.  Here are some of the Pro’s and Con’s I’ve read…

Pro’s for the Kindle Fire

**The price tag- at $199 it’s much less expensive then the iPad
**Durable display- it is extra resistant to scrapes and bumps
**Free cloud storage backup-   makes for virtually “unlimited” storage for Amazon content and 5GB storage for non-Amazon content
**14.6 ounces- almost 1/2 pound lighter then the iPad2
**1 Paid App free everyday
**Supports Adobe Flash Player- iPad 2 does not

Con’s
**WiFi only no 3g- However with the iPad this 3g comes at a monthly cost
**8GB Internal Memory that is not expandable- With free cloud storage this is not a big problem
**No Camera or Microphone
**8 Hour Battery Life vs 10 Hours on iPad 2

  1. Thanks! I’m thinking about using my Amazon gift cards (thanks, Swagbucks!) to get this for my Mother-in-law! I think it will be perfect for her!

  2. I know you can create documents on the IPad… type stuff up. Is this available on the Kindle?

    • This I’m not really sure. You would need a spreadsheet app (that is what I use on my iPad). I’m sure on the net you can start finding what apps are available on the Kindle. I’ll have to look into that.

  3. if it had a camera and the android market availability, i’d be all over that!

  4. I didn’t know you had to purchase 3G with the iPad. Wow, how much is it?

    • Some of the ipads you don’t need to have 3g but in that case you have to have a wireless internet connection. I have an iPad with 3g, the price is set by at&t or verizon depending on who you have. You can check their website for what data plans are available.
