Kool Aid Playdough

I enjoyed making kool aid playdough for my kids! I have tried many different kinds of playdough recipes and this is the only one that comes out perfect for me every time. I also like knowing that I can pronounce all of the ingredients and that it is safe to eat although not very tasty. This was my first time using Kool-Aid for color and the kids loved all of the fruity scents.  I have tried some of the non-cook recipes before and was not pleased with the texture.

Kool Aid Playdough Recipe

Kool Aid Playdough Recipe Ingredients:
  • 2 cups All-purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons  Cream of Tartar
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1/2 cup Salt
  • 2 packets Kool-Aid
  • 2 cups Hot Water

Place all dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Mix well. Add oil and hot water. Mix again. It will have a semi-liquid consistency. Pour the mixture into pot on low heat. Continue to stir until it forms and has the feel and consistency of regular playdough.

Remove from heat. Knead with spoon until it cools to touch, then knead with hands. Store in an airtight container or Ziploc bags.

I am going to try this, but tell me… did your hands stain to the point of not being able to wash them? I’m wondering if we should wear latex gloves.

    • Not at all. I don’t use gloves and have never stained. Maybe the color cooks into the dough.

How long will the dough keep without getting hard or moldy? Thanks I tried it and it came out perfect!

  3. So does this recipe make 1 color? Would you need to replete recipe and steps to make each color you wanted to make?
