Under a $1 DIY Pencil Holder

DIY pencil holder

This DIY pencil holder is a must have for any desk or work space. Why spend an obscene amount of money when you can make one for a BUCK? Using what most would consider trash and a roll of contact paper from the dollar store, I was able to make an organizer large enough to hold not only my pens and pencils, but my paint brushes, fabric markers, and cutters!

DIY Pencil Holder How To:

All you need is a small cardboard box (I used an empty envelope box) some empty toilet paper (TP) rolls, and a roll of contact paper. I cut the top flap off of the envelope box and cut the toilet paper rolls so they would not stick above the top of the box. Once everything was cut, I glued the TP rolls together just to add a little stability.

DIY pencil holderWhen it came to covering the box, I pretty much just eyeballed it. No measuring this time around. I cut a piece for each side that was long enough to overlap the edges, top and bottom by about a 1/4 inch each. When I had the pieces cut, I removed the paper backing (let me warn you, dollar store contact paper is very thin and doesn’t like to separate from the backing very easily) and pressed them onto the box. I folded the edges down, applying firm pressure to make sure the contact paper stuck.

Once I had the box covered, I set the toilet paper rolls inside and filled it with my supplies. The entire project took less than 15 minutes!
