Day 15 Spring Cleaning Challenge

spring cleaning

It’s that time of year again-Spring! When the last of the fall leaves finally come off of my tree in the front yard, the flowers start to bloom, the birds are chirping, the days are longer, and hopefully it’s getting warmer. Well I guess here in Indiana I’m still waiting on the getting warmer part! Then comes the thought of Spring cleaning. A thought that I push way to the back of my mind, but it still creeps back to the front.

I definitely want to do a good Spring cleaning, but just wasn’t sure where to start and then Wham! There the answer was in my email box. Home Made Simple sent me the solution. A 30 day Spring cleaning plan. Home Made Simple is a company owned by Proctor and Gamble. Their website has recipes, organization, crafts, decorating, DIY projects and more!

Tuesday April 9, 2013 Day 15

Spring Cleaning Challenge day fifteen brings us to our halfway mark!! Today is the day to wash, dry, and put away the winter clothes until next year. Here in Indiana I think it’s safe to put them away. I will keep them close just in case. Gather the heavy coats, snow pants, boot, hats, gloves, mittens, and scarves and join me in saying goodbye to them until Winter time!

Spring Cleaning Tips and Tricks

I only have one child, but by the looks of my winter storage area at the end of the season you may think otherwise. I always make sure he has a good amount of those little stretchy gloves and a couple of bulkier pairs to wear over them. As I peeked into the area I have them stored I saw multiple hats, boots, and extra gloves for when my nieces and nephews come over, along with hand warmers, a couple of scarves, and then my own Winter gear. I think it’s safe to say I may need a Winter apparel intervention!!

It’s time to gather everything together and make sure everything is freshly laundered. Then gather around your items and dig in! Put your gloves into pairs and organize your other items. I use something similar to my son’s stuffed animal storage in his room for our gloves and hats. It’s actually the same thing only it’s a smaller hanging organizer. It works perfect for the small items like gloves and hats and hangs right in my closet. Check out some other great tips from Home Made Simple for packing up and storing your Winter Gear.

Day Fourteen Progress

Were you able to get all of your window treatments cleaned? The mini-blinds were actually not too bad to clean, but my curtains took a lot of time to dry. While I was gathering the blinds and such, it just occurred to me that replacing my traditional windows with some energy-efficient ones (similar to those you can find here) would actually be a great idea. In fact, I can reduce the total carbon footprint of my home and also my energy costs by making such a simple change. I was so caught up in all these thoughts that I completely forgot about the curtains above my sink and the vertical blinds on my patio door. Thank goodness I noticed when I started out. Geesh! I finally got everything done and now ALL my window treatments are nice and clean.

As expected, the fourteenth day turned out to be quite productive. With half the cleaning and organizing done, I’m ready to tackle the next sixteen days head-on! Are you?
