Day 9 of Spring Cleaning Challenge

spring cleaning

It’s that time of year again-Spring! When the last of the fall leaves finally come off of my tree in the front yard, the flowers start to bloom, the birds are chirping, the days are longer, and hopefully it’s getting warmer. Well I guess here in Indiana I’m still waiting on the getting warmer part! Then comes the thought of Spring cleaning. A thought that I push way to the back of my mind, but it still creeps back to the front.

I definitely want to do a good Spring cleaning, but just wasn’t sure where to start and then Wham! There was the answer in my email box. Home Made Simple sent me the solution. A 30 day Spring cleaning plan. Home Made Simple is a company owned by Proctor and Gamble. Their website has recipes, organization, crafts, decorating, DIY projects and more!

Wednesday April 3, 2013-Day 9

Today is the day to clean out your linen closet! My linen closet contains all my towels, sheets, and some extra blankets. It also holds my Bath and Body works stash, perfumes, and first aid products. I even fit a few other odds and ends in there!  I will definitely be going through and seeing if there is anything I can get rid of like old medicines and such and going through all my sheets and towels too. Somehow things find there way into my linen closet. It’s time to re-organize and find new homes for some things.

Tips and Tricks for Spring Cleaning

Here are some great organization tips for your linen closet from Home Made Simple. Using baskets and storage cubes in your linen closet makes it look organized, neat and keep like items together.  I also use different size shelves to arrange things in tiers so I can see everything. I keep all my medicines in smaller baskets so they are easier to grab when I need them. My towels take up the most space. I have a few different sizes so I group them by size. Here are some fancy new folding techniques for your towels. After all towels should look good on a shelf too!

Day Eight Progress

So are your other bedroom closets breathing a sigh of relief after being cleaned and re-organized? I went through my son’s closet and gathered things that he has grown out of to donate or hand down to his cousins. I also found some flip flops from last year that we had to part with. Boy do kids grow fast! I also added going through his summer clothes to my list. I’m sure we will find more items to donate there too! He also has some plastic containers on the top shelf that have some of his “special memory items’ in them. That was fun to look through. It’s really interesting to see the stuff that they want to hold onto. One of my favorites is a couple of scrap booking pages that he did with me when he was about 5 years old. At the end of the day it’s so nice to see his closet all clean and organized!
