Trimming the Fat Tip #1 – Know your Auto Insurance

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

As many of you know, by day I am a risk management consultant and licensed commercial property and casualty insurance agent.  I have a Certified Risk Managers designation as well as a Certified Insurance Counselors designation.  That means that I know a lot of stuff that is good for me to know, but basically worthless information to the population at large!  However, I have decided to draw on some of that knowledge for at least a couple of the articles having to do with the trimming of fat in … [Read more...]

What are The Coupon Wizards Webinars and What Can I Expect?

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

People ask me all the time: "What are the Coupon Wizards Webinars?" so I decided I would finally take a few minutes and write a quick post about them. One of the things that I decided when I launched The Coupon Wizards in January 2011 was that I wanted our page to be different. I wanted it to be more a family or community than just a page that spit out information but was never around when it was time to answer questions. To this end, I began to develop a series of live, online training sessions … [Read more...]

How to Get Yourself Out Of Debt

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Get yourself out of debt, you really can do it! Like so many other people our debt was in control of our lives.  We were using the next paycheck to pay our current bills. How I managed it for so long is beyond me.  Three years ago we started the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace program, I am not a spokesperson for his company, it's simply the program we chose to use and we are so grateful we did. I used the audio CD and listened to it over and over again. We followed the program pretty closely but I … [Read more...]

Pay Your Children in Their Currency

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Teaching children about money can be as easy or as difficult as you make it. One thing that I have learned from raising my boys is that I need to pay them in the currency that they desire and understand. To clarify, Grayson understands money. He has been able to figure simple sales tax since he was 5 and he knows what it means to work for a dollar. He understands that he needs to save. He understands that he needs to make good decisions with his spending money. He understands that he is going to … [Read more...]

Emergency Funds Are A Must Have! My Daughter Was Grateful For Ours!

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

What could have been a major financial hit, ended up being no big thing for me this week. Why? Because I had an emergency fund in place. My 15 year old broke her front tooth about 5 years ago. At the time, we had a state funded insurance on the kids that covered the entire cost of the repair. This was long before I learned the art of couponing, debt snowballing, and emergency funds. Fast forward to this past Sunday. While sitting in Best Buy, my daughter was goofing around and somehow managed … [Read more...]

Beef Stroganoff On A Budget

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

This beef stroganoff casserole really goes far and it's delicious. It easily feeds a large family, great for pot lucks and can easily be cut in half if needed. Freezer friendly, add sour cream after you've defrosted it. I used hamburger and  penne pasta instead of egg noodles because I keep both in my stockpile and hamburger is a cheaper option than other cuts of beef when stretching a budget. I used store brand french fried onions and sour cream not only because they are cheaper but they are … [Read more...]

Shopping for Cars Tip #3 – Hot Lease Terms are Your Best Friend!

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

Before you start going ballistic sending me emails and commenting, please read this entire article. If you have ever heard me speak, you know that I think that leasing a vehicle is one of the absolute worst financial decisions you can make. It falls right in line with having a car payment in my book. In fact, it's worse because you aren't really paying down any debt, you are perpetuating it! However, by and large people will do what society dictates, so leases will not be going away anytime … [Read more...]

Shopping for Cars Tip #2 – New to you is as Good as New

Shopping for cars can be fun. The anticipation of finally replacing that old clunker is exhilarating. If you followed our advice in Shopping for Cars Tip #1 and have been patient, the reward will very much be worth the wait. The next tip is really quite simple and very straightforward: Buy used vehicles. I am sure that you have heard the cliche that a car depreciates 30% the minute you drive it off the lot. It's honestly not too far from the truth. Once a new car is driven, it's no longer new. I … [Read more...]

Shopping for Cars Tip #1 – Patience Pays Off

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see Full Disclosure Policy for more information.

I have heard the statistics and they are astounding. The majority of people that are shopping for cars will purchase a vehicle within 48 hours of stepping onto the lot the first time. I must admit, I am not helping that statistic any, but it's for a good reason. I don't go to the lot until I am absolutely ready to buy. I think sometimes we purchase cars out of necessity or self-entitlement instead of taking our time to be sure we are buying "value". It's a proven fact that at some point, your … [Read more...]

If any of you have found me on a live chat over the last 4 weeks, you've probably heard me say my husband is out of work at the moment.  He hurt himself at home a few weeks ago and we found out he has a herniated disc in his back.  He's currently in PT and headed for trigger shots in hope of avoiding surgery. What you wouldn't know is that we have had zero money coming to this house for the last 4 weeks. Yup. Zero.  While I am not one to put personal business out into the world, I thought … [Read more...]
