Talking Nerdy – Paper vs eBooks

talking nerdyI love my gadgets but when it came to books I used to be die hard paper. Not to long ago I swore I would never have an e-book reader. I loved the feel and smell of a new paper book. The downside to the paper books was that we have no bookstore in our town so buying them involved a 30 minute trip to the next town and they were taking over the house.

After much debate with hubby he got me an iPad. While I loved it for its many uses I was still reluctant to use it for book reading. I thought even with the downsides I still wanted the paper.

One day I was stuck waiting at a doctors office and I had been wanting to catch up on the Patricia Cornwell “Scarpata Series”… I was currently 2 books behind and the new one is coming out sometime at the end of this year. I had my iPad so I bit the bullet and downloaded it. I WAS HOOKED!!

I love talking nerdy & I love having my books electronically and haven’t bought a paper book since! They really are much more convient. If I want a new book- no run to the bookstore- I download it where ever I am. No more over flowing bookshelves and since I have a habit of reading numerous books at one time I have them all with me instead of having to first remember to bring one and second decide which one to bring.

Now price wise an iPad for a book reader is a little overboard. But a Kindle is a great alternative. I have a couple friends that have them a they swear by them.

The nice thing about a Kindle is they have a good variety so you can find one with different features and they come in different price ranges. Right now Amamzon has some amazing deals and I’ll link a few for you below. They also have some really cool accessories and covers to go with them.

Right now you can get a Kindle, Wi-Fi, 6″ E Ink Display – includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers for $79. They also have the Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6″ E Ink Display – includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers for $99. If you are into the latest, greatest, hottest then I like the Kindle Fire, Full Color 7″ Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi for $199.

  1. Just got a kindle yesterday!!Hubby got it for my birthday. Was a die-hard paper and hardback kind of girl. Had it less the 24 hours… already a convert!!! LOVE IT!!! And, at $79, can’t go wrong!

I love my nook! You can get books online for free from the library no waiting no remembering to take it back before the due date. And its even better that I can download new releases and not pay for them. My book addiction was getting pretty pricey. I can now read as much as I want and not worry about spending too much on my 5 book a week addiction 🙂

  3. My smartphone’s screen is large enough to make reading a delightful experience using the Kindle app for Android. I absolutely love the convenience of always having my books with me and my pages saved.
