Save yourself time and money while cleaning and deodorizing your home with these helpful household ideas.

Overall Household Tips
  1. Freshen your vacuum – Empty canister after vacuuming. Sprinkle 1/2 cup baking soda on a small section of carpet, vacuum it up and put vacuum away till needed again. Do not empty canister. 2-4 times a month should be sufficient.
  2. Freshen your carpet shampooer – When finished cleaning carpets, refill the tank with hot water, add 2 caps of your favorite non wax hard surface floor cleaner, ammonia or bleach, depending on floor surface, to freshen the water tank. I use bleach on my tile floors. Run shampooer over tile/hardwood flooring, empty, let tank dry before reassembling and storing. Pro Tip: Clean up your spills as soon as possible to prevent staining on your carpet, hardwood floors or tiles!
  3. Check the brush bars periodically on your machines. You can replace them easily and inexpensively when they become worn down.
  4. Boost your carpet cleaning solution by adding 1/2 capful of Clorox 2 For Colors in the solution tank. Not chlorine bleach. One of my friends learnt this tip from a carpet cleaning Fernandina Beach company and it really works. This method is a good way to safely remove pet or other stubborn stains or grass and blood stains without harming the carpet. This is an easy solution to help you get stains out of your carpet. But if the situation is beyond your control, it is best to call in experts of carpet cleaning in Omaha (if you live in and around the area that is), and give your carpet the deep cleaning that it is deserving of.
  5. Toss Swiffer dusters in the wash. You can use them over and over.
  6. Easy clean microwave – Heat 2 cups water on high for 2 minutes. Let sit for 5 minutes with door closed and wipe clean. You can add a TBSP of lemon juice to water to deodorize.
  7. Dishwasher odor – Sprinkle 1/4 cup Borax in bottom of dishwasher. Let sit overnight, wipe clean. You don’t need to run dishwasher to rinse.
  8. Control odors in the fridge by putting 2 cups of coffee grounds, fresh or used, in a bowl and place in your refrigerator. Replace about every 2 months or as needed.
  9. Clean and deodorize garbage disposal by grinding a handful of ice cube along with 1/2 a lemon, lime, orange or grapefruit and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Cut fruit into 1″ – 2″ pieces.
  10. Don’t throw empty spice, marinade and mason type jars away. Refill them with your own spice and marinade blends. Mason jars are great for storing foods that you would normally put in baggies to keep fresh after opening such as rice, granola, brown sugar etc.
  11. Don’t throw away the lids to Parmesan cheese bottles. They fit on mason jars.
  12. Don’t throw used dryer sheets away. Use as a car freshener, place in dresser drawers, closets, under furniture, lightly rub on hair or clothes to control static electricity or use to dust furniture. They help repel dust longer.

Helpful Household Ideas in the Bathroom
  1. Use a squeegee on shower doors after each shower to reduce hard water spots and soap scum between cleanings.
  2. Keep a cleaning station in each bathroom. Use a plastic shoe box to hold your cleaning supplies, cleaning wipes, cleaning brushes/rags. Also, you can find cleaning chemicals for sale in Australia or any other country, and buying them in bulk might save on some expenses in the long run.
  3. Baking soda – Make a paste and use to clean hair product residue off of curling irons, flat irons and bathroom floors.
  4. Remove hair product build up in hair – Pour normal amount of shampoo in your palm, add 1 TBSP baking soda, mix together, shampoo and condition as normal. Do this as needed based on the amount of hair products you use and before applying home hair color. Twice a month is average.
  5. Sprinkle baking soda on a damp rag to tackle soap scum in showers and bathtubs. Let stand on difficult areas 10 minutes, wipe off and rinse.
  6. Use RainX (as directed on bottle) on shower doors or spray on shower curtains. This allows water and soap scum to slide right off.
