Homemade Apple Pie & Pumpkin Spices

homemade apple pie

You come across a recipe that requires a tablespoon of a apple pie or pumpkin pie spice blend that you don’t have. Do you spend $3.49 on a small bottle of pumpkin pie spice or can you make it with what you have on hand? Many spice blends have the same ingredients in them with maybe a tweak here and there as you can see with by the two below.

If you have a well stocked spice cabinet, chances are good that you can make just about anything for next to nothing.

Apple Pie Spice Blend
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1  tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2  tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2  tsp ground cardamom

Combine together and store in a labeled airtight container. Yield 2 Tbsp + 1 tsp

Pumpkin Pie Spice
  • 4 Tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 4  tsp ground nutmeg
  • 4  tsp ground ginger
  • 3  tsp ground allspice

Combine and store in a labeled airtight container. Yield 8 Tbsp

Other uses

These spice blends are good for more than pie. You can also ad them to –

  • Oatmeal cookie batter
  • Oatmeal cereal with a sweetener and dried apples, cranberries or raisins
  • Stir into softened vanilla ice cream and re-freeze
  • Apple bread pudding (any bread pudding)
  • Cobblers
  • Mix with a sugar and sprinkle over toast

This isn’t Extreme Couponing, it’s Effective Couponing! There is a method to my madness as well. Not only do I find sales & deals for you, but in doing so, I find sales & deals for me too. It’s a win win 😉 Plus I’m able to teach others to do this at the same time, which I love!

I started following The Coupon Wizards after doing some research on the subject, with a little prodding from a friend, and coming across them on Facebook. I was hooked immediately & started to learn quickly. Mostly out of necessity, but also because I loved everything about it. The organization, the researching, the putting together of deals, but most of all, the savings! I was saving my family money to pay those bills & be able to eat all at the same time. This blog was a life saver; literally! In no time at all, I was a blogger myself on the site. My husband has since found a job, but this is now mine and I love, love, love it and hope you will to. Let me know what you think in the comments.
